Memory (04) / Trivial Neutral
If they'd ripped me open, I could have eaten lunch twice!
Plot, Day 92.
( Ep. 5; 4:05-6:10, 9:21-10:15 )
- Mako gets kidnapped and strung up on a table as the "Biology Club's Guinea Pig #1", so of course Ryuko comes to save her and isn't even phased by the scalpels they throw. Bam, Biology Club is no more.
- "Kyaaa, Ryuko-chan, you're so cool!"
- Cue flinging herself at Ryuko, who carefully puts away her scissor blade (which can now become tiny! that's new, Mako notes it). Mako's feelings are all "Ryuko is the best and coolest friend!"
- Mako watches Ryuko talk to her uniform in a one-sided conversation: "Huh? You can tell that from how my blood tastes? Ah-- butt out of private stuff like that! No, that's called butting in where you're not wanted! I can't waste my time on chumps like these guys!"
- Mako seems awed by this. "Amazing, amazing! You can do a comedy duo all by yourself!" When Ryuko looks startled, Mako says that she knows Ryuko talks to Senketsu, and then swiftly changes the subject before Ryuko can protest.
- She pulls a HUGE lunchbox out of her shirt and talks about how she would have had to eat lunch all over again if they had cut her open.
- As soon as she starts to dig in, the world goes black!
- She wakes up from a nap to find Ryuko looking a little disheveled and upset, but thinks it's probably because Mako passed the fuck out.
- They go to the store and buy SO MUCH FOOD! And EAT. Oh boy. Mako's mom has made another round of mystery croquettes and they're all digging in around their tiny, dingy table -- Mako especially. The family notes that she's eating more than usual.
- She admits that she took a nap and now feels way more invigorated! Like she could eat a whole house! She put all the food on her dad's tab, of course.
- "If it comes down to it, I'll just sell Mataro's organs!"
- Mako points out to Ryuko that the dog (Guts) is eating all of her food, and she doesn't even seem to care. She leaves the table.
- Though she does note that Ryuko is still upset, so it's probably something else going on, she doesn't mention it at this time, and decides to bring it up later.

+500 I COULD EAT AN ENTIRE HOUSE IF I COULD this is the first memory where she's really going to understand why she eats so much, and like it's going out of style or going to go bad. Her house is tiny, her family doesn't have a lot of money, and food is mostly processed crap or garbage.
